Woodstock Way Hotel Review: Is It Worth The Price?

Every year I try to find somewhere new and interesting to explore along the East Coast.

After reading a few reviews of the Woodstock Way Hotel in New York’s Catskill Mountains, I decided to book a surprise birthday weekend getaway for my husband and check it out for myself.

Here’s my honest, first-hand review of everything you need to know before you book.

Woodstock Way Hotel Overview

First things first, the Woodstock Way Hotel is a contemporary, sustainably focused boutique property on two and a half acres of lush woodland in the town of Woodstock, NY.

But it’s not a hotel in the conventional sense.

You won’t find a full-service spa, gym, or on-site restaurant here.

But what you will find is a beautifully designed complex of individual buildings that blend seamlessly into the surrounding nature.

It’s very much a place to disconnect and unwind from the stresses of daily life.

And if you appreciate thoughtful design, a peaceful location, and genuinely warm service, you’re in for a treat!

I loved the variety of dining options just a short stroll away. You can park your car and completely relax for a couple of days – perfect!

Where Is the Woodstock Way Hotel?

The hotel sits right in the heart Woodstock, NY, tucked just behind Tinker Street — the main street that runs through town.

It’s genuinely hidden and you could easily walk past if you didn’t know it was there!

To find it, look for a small wooden sign as you cross the Tannery Brook, then drive between two quirky arts-and-crafts shops, one of which looked like someone’s home.

Keep going until you reach the wooden building called The Tannery, which is the property’s main hub.

Rooms at The Woodstock Way Hotel

The hotel has 23 individual rooms, each with a private balcony or outdoor space helping you to get up closer to your surroundings.

Room types range from studios and suites to a two-bedroom Croft Cottage, which has a full kitchen and is a perfect option for families or two couples traveling together.

I booked two rooms for our 3-night stay: a King Suite (Room 307) and a Queen Room (Room 101).

Woodstock Way King Suite (Room 307)

The King Suite was pretty spacious and had a separate lounge area.

I loved the massive windows that wrapped around the building and flooded the room with natural light.

The oversized sofa bed was surprisingly comfortable and worked great for accommodating a third guest – which we needed.

Extra pillows and blankets were available on request.

The décor of the suite was rustic, simple, and elegant.

The bedding is sourced from Brooklinen.

The mattress was comfortable, though slightly on the softer side for my taste. Everyone else didn’t have a problem. The pillows, however, were very comfortable.

There’s was large balcony with a mix of woodland and neighboring backyard views (I’m guessing it would be more private once the trees are in full leaf).

Woodstock Way Queen Room (Room 101)

Our Queen Room sat above The Tannery—the hotel’s reception, coffee shop, afternoon snack spot, and lounge.

Here’s what you need to know about room 101:

  • Slightly noisier due to its position, but as The Tannery closes at 7:00 PM and reopens at 7:30 AM, it wasn’t an issue.
  • There’s a small balcony that provides a direct view of the waterfall.

Woodstock Way Bathrooms & Amenities

All of the rooms have heated floors in the bathrooms — a real luxury in early spring!

There’s complimentary D.S. & Durga products, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion (available for purchase at The Tannery). They smell divine!

The shower was spacious showers with controls on the opposite wall, so you don’t get soaked before turning it on – why don’t I have that?!

Each room has a Bluetooth-connected turntable with vintage vinyl; you can swap records anytime at The Tannery.

Check-In Process

We arrived a few hours before check-in and our rooms were available – bonus!

I headed into The Tannery to check in but in-person check isn’t necessary.

Guests receive a pre-arrival email with your room’s lockbox access codes, so late arrivals aren’t a problem.

Room doors lock automatically which is good to know.

The lockboxes are positioned outside each room and house an additional key, so if you lock yourself out it’s no problem. I was told that this happens more than you’d think!

After a quick orientation, the friendly staff pointed me along the property’s one-way route to our assigned parking spot.

Hotel Amenities

This is where the Woodstock Way Hotel really stands out.

I had emailed ahead to ask about parking and mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday.

On arrival, we were greeted with a champagne and chocolate station.

Beyond that, our room came stocked with two carafes of water, popcorn, and everything in the mini-fridge was complimentary.

The Tannery lobby offers free made-to-order espresso drinks and tea as part of your room rate.

It’s a full coffee bar (open to residents and non-residents), and the staff will make your order on request.

Between 3:00 PM and 5:30 PM, a free snack bar is also offered at The Tannery.

We grabbed some snacks and really cute, individually packaged s’mores kits, then headed to the fire pits by the waterfall after dark.

Even in early spring, it was lovely to be wrapped up and spend time around the fire.

The wood, firelighters, and other fire pit supplies on Waterfall Terrace are all complimentary and ready to use.

Although there’s no on-site spa, you can request an in-room massage or Reiki session at an additional cost—you just need to remember to book ahead.

Customer Service At The Woodstock Way Hotel

Everyone we interacted with was warm and friendly.

When our record player needle was broken and we needed extra bedding for the sofa bed, both requests were handled quickly and efficiently.

The hotel doesn’t offer daily housekeeping as standard, but you can request “tidy services” between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM by speaking with the front desk.

Is the Woodstock Way Hotel Worth the Price?

This is the big question—and one I’ve seen debated in plenty of other reviews—so it’s worth addressing honestly.

Some reviewers feel the nightly rate doesn’t quite reflect the value, particularly pointing to the lack of on-site dining and no overnight front desk coverage.

Personally, I loved our three-night stay at the Woodstock Way Hotel.

It was a great choice for a milestone birthday celebration—but it didn’t come cheap, and whether it feels “worth it” really depends on your budget and expectations.

If you’re looking for a full-service hotel, this isn’t that. And at this price point, the “amenities” gap can feel a bit jarring.

But if you go in understanding what it is—a beautifully designed retreat with generous inclusions, in a stunning setting, with genuinely warm service—I think most people will feel it’s worth it, at least for a few nights.

The location is hard to beat, and you have all of Woodstock’s dining options just a short walk away, helping to balance out the lack of on-site amenities.

Who Is the Woodstock Way Hotel Best For?

In my opinion, this hotel is best suited to couples or small groups of friends looking for a romantic or celebratory weekend getaway within easy reach of New York City.

The property is also pet-friendly.

We stayed in late spring, just before the season fully kicked in, and it was still beautiful.

That said, I imagine fall is the real sweet spot.

A winter stay would also be cozy and romantic—especially in one of the Tannery Brook Suites, some of which come with fireplaces.

This isn’t a high-energy, activity-packed kind of stay—it’s about slowing down, switching off, and leaning into the setting.

Final Thoughts on the Woodstock Way Hotel

The Woodstock Way Hotel isn’t a full-service resort—but that’s probably why I liked it.

With its wooded setting, light-filled rooms, and cozy touches, it’s a peaceful escape perfect for couples or small groups.

So if you’re looking for relaxing, nature-forward East Coast getaway, the Woodstock Way Hotel is completely in tune with that vibe (pun intended 😂) Peace ✌️
