Italy – My Top Travel Tip

Don’t overpack your itinerary – trying to “see it all” can leave you feeling exhausted. Instead, pick just a couple of regions or cities and take your time. Slow travel allows for deeper experiences!

My travel experiences in Italy…

Like so many travelers, Italy stole my heart the first time I visited over 20 years ago.

As a history lover, I’ve always been drawn to places with a strong sense of the past — I was lucky to grow up close to the Roman city of Chester, where ancient walls and ruins are simply part of the everyday landscape.

I’ve returned to Italy time and again over the years. One of my most memorable visits was a three-week journey through Tuscany where my husband and I explored every nook and cranny of the region! And drank plenty of Chianti in the process!

I’ve explored Bologna’s vibrant food scene and wandered its medieval porticoes.

And one of my favorite discoveries? The charming town of Lake Orta in the Piedmont region, a tranquil alternative to Italy’s more famous, and tourist-heavy, lakes region.

  • Transportation Tip – For US travelers, flying into Milan is often cheaper than flying into Rome, and thanks to Italy’s efficient rail network, it’s super easy to use Milan as a jumping-off point for exploring the rest of the country. I recommend using Trainline for booking your European train travel – the app is easy and convenient to use.
