Currency
Italy uses the euro (€), and ATMs are easy to find in cities and towns. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, but it’s smart to carry some cash for small cafés, markets, or rural areas.
Weather
Italy’s weather varies by region — sunny Mediterranean coasts, cooler northern cities, and alpine conditions in the mountains. Summers can get hot, especially inland, while spring and fall offer mild, pleasant temperatures ideal for sightseeing.
Transportation
Italy’s trains make exploring easy and comfortable. Trenitalia and Italo connect major cities like Rome, Florence, Milan, and Naples, while regional trains serve smaller towns. For countryside or coastal adventures, renting a car gives you flexibility.

My travel experiences in Italy
Like so many travelers, Italy stole my heart the first time I visited over 20 years ago.
As a history lover, I’m drawn to places with a strong sense of the past. I grew up near the Roman city of Chester, surrounded by ancient walls and ruins.
I’ve returned to Italy many times. One of my most memorable trips was a three-week journey through Tuscany. My husband and I explored every corner of the region — and drank plenty of Chianti along the way!
I’ve wandered Bologna’s medieval porticoes and explored its vibrant food scene.
One of my favorite finds was Lake Orta in Piedmont, a less-known and quiet alternative to Italy’s more famous lakes.
